Vegan Recipe: Orange Crystals
This recipe is simple, easy to make, and brings childhood memories.
Every time I need an orange, I used to peel it off carefully (without the white part). Then, I cut into tiny slices and soak them in water for 3 days — draining and changing this water daily. After that, I drain it and put it into the freezer until I get a bag full of oranges skin. At this point, I can make these delicious orange crystals to have as a snack when I crave something sweet.
It took me a while to get the best recipe, I tried many times with different spices, without and soaking in water until I get the perfect taste.
RECIPE
- Add the orange skin slices (frozen) to a saucepan (measure in cups)
- Add the sugar (1 cup of sugar for every 2 cups of orange skin)
3. Add water until cover it.
4. Bring to boil in high heat (6).
5. When the water is about half, lower the heat to medium (3) and add ground cinnamon, ground mixed spices, vanilla pure extract, and 2 tbsp of Maple Syrup.
6. Mix well and let reduce until almost dry.
7. Remove from the heat and put on a glass container with some icing sugar.
8. Stir and mix slowly and gently until dry and forming crystals.
9. Let it cool completely
10. Transfer to a hermetic glass jar
Enjoy it! It has a sweet citrus taste and it´s refreshing.
